NASCAR is under fire after allowing British driver Katherine Legge compete in Sunday's Cup Series race at Phoenix without any experience in the two feeder

Katherine Legge endured some early adversity as she became the first woman since Danica Patrick in February 2018 to compete in a NASCAR Cup Series race at Sunday's Shriners Children's 500 at Phoenix Raceway.

Seven years after Danica Patrick last raced in the Daytona 500 for Premium Motorsports, Katherine Legge took the wheel for the Shriners Children’s 500. The 44-year-old became the first woman to compete in a NASCAR Cup Series event since 2018.

Joey Logano missed out on breaking a huge record after he lost the pole position to William Byron for the NASCAR Shriners Children's 500 at Phoenix.

Daytona 500 winner William Byron's strong season continued Saturday when he won the pole at Phoenix Raceway. Byron, the points leader entering Sunday's race, earned his 14th career pole with a lap of 133.

The Shriners Children's 500 has had eight winners from five teams over the last eight years. Before that stretch, Kevin Harvick won three straight Shriners Children's 500. Harvick retired from full-time racing after the 2023 season and won't be in the 2025 Shriners Children's 500 DFS driver pool,

The NASCAR Cup Series moves on to the site of November's championship race for Sunday's Shriners Children's 500 at Phoenix Raceway. Five months ago, Joey Logano held off Ryan Blaney to win the 2024 Cup Series title at Phoenix in an all-Penske affair.
