Boeing Co. and US prosecutors said they’re working to hammer out a new deal to settle a criminal case stemming from two fatal 737 Max crashes after a federal judge blocked an earlier plan because it included race as a factor for selecting a compliance monitor.

The U.S. Justice Department and Boeing told a court on Friday they have not reached agreement on a revised plea deal after a U.S. judge in December rejected the deal, faulting a diversity and inclusion provision.

Boeing said it is "on track with progress showing tangible improvements" in an update about its safety and quality plan.

Almost one year after a door plug blowout on one of its 737 Max jets led to an explosive decompression, Boeing is now detailing the steps it has taken to improve safety during the manufacturing process.

Boeing said Friday that it had hit several internal targets on safety and quality control despite a series of deadly crashes, near catastrophes and embarrassing incidents that has seen its share price plunge and airlines around the world pull some of its planes.
