Mets sign another player away from the Yankees
The New York Mets’ offseason plan appears to be to raid the New York Yankees’ bullpen. The Mets agreed to a two-year contract with reliever Luke Weaver on Wednesday.
Williams rose to among the game’s most dominant relievers — he has been the third-most valuable reliever (trailing only Emmanuel Clase and Díaz, per FanGraphs) from 2020-25, during which he has owned a 2.38 ERA with 14.29 strikeouts per nine innings — behind a unique, often unhittable changeup nicknamed the “Airbender” and a mid-90s four-seamer.
The free agency market is heating up and another former New York Yankees pitcher is leaving the team. According to the New York Posts' Joel Sherman, reliever Luke Weaver is in the process of finalizing a two-year, $22 million deal with the Yankees' crosstown rivals, the New York Mets.
New York Mets reliever Devin Williams explained to the media why he signed with the team in free agency on Friday afternoon.
