The Springfield Police Department said that the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) received information that a 13-year-old boy who had an active arrest warrant had an illegal firearm on Thursday afternoon. Detectives began surveillance in the area of Lombard Street and saw the suspect with two other people on the 600 block of Main Street.

Just hours after the ball dropped for New Year’s celebrations, an AR-15 rifle was seized when several gunshots prompted Springfield officers to the area of Westford Circle.
