San Antonio Spurs veteran point guard Chris Paul is known as a basketball savant, a throwback player to simpler times when guile and smarts were among the most sought-after qualities in NBA basketball players.

Paul frantically got Wembanyama's attention, pulling the center's arm into the fray so Paul was not severely overmatched on the resulting jump. It was a small thing but a pretty clever move and one that isn't often observed.

Any play involving Chris Paul is a chance for him to showcase his tremendous basketball feel. That was evident Wednesday night.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs lost at home to the Memphis Grizzlies 140-112. San Antonio was outscored 40-22 in the third en route to the loss versus Memphis. Victor Wembanyama finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Harrison Barnes had 13, and Chris Paul had six and six assists.

Santi Aldama scored a career-high 29 points and the Memphis Grizzlies rolled to a 140-112 victory over San Antonio on Friday night, handing the Spurs their largest losing margin of the season even with Ja Morant sidelined by a foot injury.
