The FAA banned flights to Haiti because a Spirit Airlines plane was shot at while it was trying to land in Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, and one flight attendant was injured.

A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was damaged by gunfire en route to Haiti and diverted to the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, the airline said.

The flight appeared to be part of what the U.S. Embassy called “gang-led efforts to block travel to and from Port-au-Prince which may include armed violence, and disruptions to roads, ports, and airports.
