There's a new surprise team in the hunt for former Red Sox third baseman and star free agent Alex Bregman, according to two reports.
Alex Bregman is one of a handful of big names who remain on the free agent market. And while he missed 43 games in 2025 due to a quad injury, one ESPN insider doesn’t believe it will impact the kind of contract he’ll get. ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel projected the third baseman to get a five-year, $170 million, or six years in order to lower the AAV.
This MLB insider could be teasing the Diamondbacks potentially signing Alex Bregman, making similarities with Corbin Burnes.
The Detroit Tigers emerged as a potential landing spot for Bregman last year and it appears they haven't ruled out the possibility. But ESPN's Buster Olney said on a recent episode of the "Baseball Tonight" podcast that negotiations between the AL Central club and Bregman turned "a little bit nasty" last winter.
